The story of MOMO

Momo adalah seorang gadis kecil berusia 12 tahun yang hidup di suatu masa di mana orang-orang masih berbicara dalam bahasa yang sama sekali berbeda dari bahasa-bahasa yang kita kenal sekarang. Ia seorang anak gelandangan, yatim piatu, tak punya rumah tinggal dan hidup sebatang kara di dunia ini. Tempat tinggalnya selama ini adalah sebuah ruangan kecil di amfiteater. Amfiteater adalah sebuah bangunan berbentuk setengah lingkaran tempat orang-orang menonton pertunjukan teater/drama di masa itu. Momo banyak punya kawan. Mulai dari anak-anak seusianya sampai mereka yang berusia jauh di atasnya. Seluruh penduduk kota itu menyukai dan menyayangi Momo yang pandai mendengarkan cerita. Setiap hari mereka selalu bergantian datang mengunjungi anak kecil itu untuk bercerita atau sekedar bermain-main bersamanya.

Dari semua temannya, ada dua orang yang lalu menjadi amat dekat dengannya, yaitu Gigi Si Pemandu Wisata dan Beppo Tukangsapujalanan. Mereka bertiga menjadi sahabat yang saling bantu-membantu dalam kesulitan.

Suatu hari kota mereka yang tenang dan damai itu mendapat bencana. Sekelompok orang yang menamakan diri mereka sebagai Tuan Kelabu datang ke kota mereka dan mengacaukan segalanya. Para Tuan Kelabu yang suka berpakaian abu-abu sambil menghisap cerutu berwarna kelabu itu adalah segerombolan pencuri. Bukan harta benda yang mereka ambil dari para penduduk kota tempat Momo tinggal. Mereka mencuri waktu yang dimiliki seluruh penduduk kota. Akibatnya orang-orang di kota itu lalu berubah menjadi orang-orang yang murung, tidak peduli lagi satu sama lain serta selalu terburu-buru karena takut kehilangan waktu mereka yang berharga. Mereka tak lagi menyempatkan diri berkunjung ke amfiteater untuk bercerita dan bercengkrama.

Melihat keadaan tersebut, Momo beserta kedua orang sahabatnya, Gigi dan Beppo, jadi prihatin dan bertanya-tanya apa sebabnya. Mereka bertiga, untungnya, belum menjadi korban para Tuan Kelabu (Walaupun kemudian Gigi dan Beppo jadi korban juga). Momo tidak menyadari bahwa dirinya ternyata dijaga dan dilindungi oleh Empu Hora, Sang Penguasa Waktu seluruh umat manusia di bumi, sehingga gerombolan penjahat itu tak pernah bisa menjamah dan mencuri waktu darinya. Empu Hora sengaja berbuat demikian sebab ia butuh bantuan bocah itu untuk menyelamatkan dunia dari kekejaman para Tuan Kelabu.

Maka lalu dimulailah petualangan Momo menyelamatkan kotanya dan membebaskan seluruh penduduk dari pengaruh Tuan Kelabu agar kehidupan kembali normal. Dengan bantuan kesaktian Empu Hora dan ditemani seekor kura-kura ajaib bernama Kassiopeia, Momo akhirnya berhasil mengembalikan waktu milik orang-orang yang telah dicuri oleh gerombolan Tuan Kelabu. Kotapun hidup kembali seperti semula.
